The 21st Century Classroom

As we approach Week 5, I'm still in awe. In awe with everybody's persistence even when the learning curve is steep.

I'm still excited to feel the good vibes when educators just get it, grab a new concept, new idea and make them their own.

I'm still amazed at the connections being established, the helping hands when somebody shouts for support.

Blogging has just made it more meaningful, connective, reflective, conversational.

My dream is to really see true bloggers coming out this session much beyond when this is over. My dream is to see educators inspiring learners, and learners teaching educators.

My dream is to truly be part of a movement towards the 21st century classroom in which we are all learners, constructing, mixing and remixing ideas, concepts, artifacts.

I leave you with Chris Lehmann's video. Much of what I'd like to say, but not so elegantly and fast!

Hi there Carla...
Let me tell you about the blog I've just started (http://byebyebasic.blogspot.com/) with one of my groups... In fact, it was yesterday that I told them about it! I chose this specific group, because we only see each other on Saturday, then I thought this could be a good opportunity to keep in touch (in English) throughout the week... At first, they seemed amazed and while I was explaining what we were going to do (specially to the older students who don't know anything about it...) some teens were already posting their comments! :D I really don't know what's going to happen, but I felt they were eager to participate, I just need to keep their motivation up!!

Carla, I never know whether I answer your comment here on your posterous, or right after the comment you left on mine.. Well, I searched google images and found that picture which I found really nice, too....

Dear Lilian,

You answer my comments wherever I added my comment. I keep track when you comment back through RSS. Besides, in posterous and blogger, you can subscribe to the blog comments so I know when you post a new comment. So, if I commented on your blog, you add your reply there and I'll know it.

As for the image, a question. Was the image copyrighted? Or was there a Creative Commons licence that let you add to your blog? I ask you this because in Brazil we generally ignore copyright issues, but they are part of media literacy and it's something we should be aware of...I was one who would never pay attention to it, but now all the photos I use are licenced under Creative Commons, or are mine. Plus, I always link it back to where it was originally found.

Just some tips that I find essential as we're dealing with image sharing this week.

Thanks for the tips Carla...
The last picture (sharing), I inserted a link to it, telling where it was from...
I'll do the same with this one...

Now, in relation to the comments, which do you think is better?
   - reply to the comment right after it, on my page    ...or....
   - reply to the comment on the commenter's blog???

Great, Lilian. Still you need to check what kind of license the photo has to see if you can really share it. If it doesn't say anything, you can't use it. Check for the Creative Commons photos in Flickr. It's safe!

In relation to comments, you reply where the comment was made. So, if it's on your blog, reply it there. If you made a comment somewhere else, and the person replied there. Keep the conversation there. One advanced thing, though... Sometimes what we do is the following, we write a new post answering the person and linking back to the original post. What will happen is that the person will see that you're linking to him/her and probably reply to you! Fun stuff!

Carla, I don't know if there is a creative commons license for the picture about RSS... Can you help me out? I was searching a site that talked about RSS and found this nice picture... To be honest, I really didn't think about a license...
